Job summary

The American Geographical Society Library (AGSL) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Libraries seeks a Public Services Librarian. The successful candidate will oversee AGSL reference services, develop innovative instructional programming, and support use of the AGSL’s collections by global audiences.

Reporting to the Head of the AGSL, the Librarian will supervise student interns, contribute to outreach, and collaborate with campus units on exhibitions and instructional initiatives.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in library science from an ALA-accredited school by date of employment.
• Experience with special collections or rare cartographic materials is preferred.
• Experience in an academic or research library is desirable.
• Experience supervising student workers or interns is a plus.
• Ability to plan and teach library instruction using primary source materials.

Responsibilities

• Oversee AGSL reference services and instructional programming.
• Support research use of the AGSL collections for local and global audiences.
• Supervise student Reference Interns and coordinate outreach for the collection.
• Design, deliver, and assess instruction in multiple formats.
• Develop and manage exhibits (physical and digital) to promote collections.
