Job summary

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) is offering a Strategic Operations & Public Service Intern role in Albany, NY. The intern will work with the Department of Empowerment, Compliance and Opportunity (DECO) to support operational excellence, modernization initiatives, and supplier diversity research.

Qualifications

• Undergrad or grad student pursuing Public Administration, Public Policy, Business Administration, Organizational Management, Communications, Data Analytics, Political Science, Economics or related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Demonstrated interest in government operations, public service, or technology modernization.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a semester-long strategic improvement project supporting DECO’s operational excellence and modernization initiatives.
• Support operational planning, workflow optimization, and continuous process improvement.
• Assist with DECO’s technology modernization initiatives, including exposure to AXI compliance platform and related business process improvements.
• Conduct research on supplier diversity, public administration, and government best practices.
• Assist with project management, tracking milestones, and coordinating cross-functional initiatives.
• Prepare executive presentations, briefing materials, reports, and communications.
• Support development of standard operating procedures, training materials, and operational documentation.
• Assist with performance measurement, dashboard development, and data analysis.
• Participate in meetings with internal and external stakeholders to gain exposure to public sector operations and strategic decision-making.
• Present a final capstone project summarizing accomplishments, recommendations, and lessons learned to DECO leadership.
