Job summary

New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR) invites undergraduate and graduate students to apply for an internship with the Department of Empowerment, Compliance and Opportunity (DECO). Working with DECO leadership, the intern will contribute to strategic improvement initiatives and gain hands-on exposure to government operations and modernization efforts.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a related field.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Interest in government operations, public service or technology modernization.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a semester-long strategic improvement project for DECO’s operations.
• Support operational planning, workflow optimization and process improvements.
• Assist with DECO’s technology modernization initiatives and related tooling.
• Conduct research on supplier diversity, public administration and best practices.
• Assist with project management, milestones and cross-functional coordination.
• Prepare executive materials, briefings, reports and communications.
• Develop standard operating procedures, training materials and documentation.
• Assist with performance measurement, dashboards and data analysis.
• Attend meetings with stakeholders to gain exposure to public sector decisions.
• Present a final capstone project to DECO leadership.
