Job summary

McKenna is seeking a Permit Technician to join a municipal building department in the Greater Detroit area. The role focuses on front-line customer service and processing of permits, plans, and inspections according to guidelines.

The ideal candidate has at least two years of customer service/administrative experience or one year as a Permit Technician, with strong MS Office skills and willingness to learn BS&A software. Onsite work in a Detroit-area municipality is required.

Qualifications

• Minimum of two years of customer service and administrative experience involving public contact, preferably in a municipal setting; or one year as a Permit Technician with a private or public agency.
• Excellent customer service, administrative, multi-tasking, and organizational skills are a must to handle face-to-face inquiries, issue permits, and manage records.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required.
• Experience with BS&A software is a plus or willingness to be trained in the software.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in a Greater Detroit municipality office.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing, accepting, distributing, processing, documenting, and maintaining departmental information, reports, plans, specifications, applications, and permits and related inspections.
• Provide ongoing administrative, organizational, and technical support to Building Department Inspection Division staff and related departments.
