Job summary

The State of Florida, Department of Corrections, is seeking an HR Staffing and Selection Specialist to manage full lifecycle recruiting in a central office setting. You will ensure lawful, efficient hiring, onboarding, and personnel support while partnering with leadership on data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities include coordinating background checks, salary determinations, and orientations, using People First, SharePoint, and related tools.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Must have at least two years of relevant human resources experience.
• A bachelor’s degree may substitute for one year of the required two years of experience.
• Experience reviewing and processing information from multiple documents and various sources to prepare an official document.
• Must be willing and able to work in office Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
• A work sample will be required in order to move to the next step in the recruitment process.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Talent Acquisition: Independently manage a caseload of selection packages, review applications for eligibility, conduct background checks, and handle new hire orientations.
• Systems & Data Management: Utilize specialized programs—including People First, SharePoint, FCIC/NCIC, and ATMS2 to process PARs, determine salaries, and compile recruitment data into visual charts and reports.
• Compliance & Advocacy: Evaluate and apply DMS Personnel Rules, Florida Statutes, collective bargaining agreements, and Veterans’ Preference guidelines to ensure all hiring practices are fair and legally compliant.
• Strategic Partnership: Advise hiring managers on interview modules, resolve recruitment challenges, and assist executive leadership with budget or union research.
• Public Relations: Act as a public representative for the FDC, promoting career paths and growth opportunities within the available workforce.
