Job summary

Equiliem is seeking a University HR Payroll Coordinator to support payroll operations for a large public-sector organization in New York. The role ensures employees are paid accurately and on time while complying with policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.

You will prepare, process, and audit payroll transactions, analyze data for discrepancies, and handle specialized payroll tasks including tax corrections, replacement checks, and deductions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Payroll processing, payroll auditing, HR/payroll operations, or related experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with PeopleSoft/PSQuery, NYC or NYS payroll systems, or similar HRIS/payroll platforms highly desirable.
• Knowledge of payroll-related federal, state, and local regulations preferred.
• Experience interpreting policies, payroll bulletins, or collective bargaining agreements is a strong plus.
• Strong analytical and research skills.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills required; familiarity with Access, Word, SharePoint, Teams, and other HR/payroll systems preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, review, and audit payroll transactions.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies and ensure accurate processing.
• Process specialized payroll transactions, including tax corrections, replacement checks, refunds, duplicate-payment corrections, deductions, and payment adjustments.
• Recalculate payroll payments based on applicable policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
• Review and implement New York State and New York City payroll bulletins.
• Audit payroll information submitted by multiple departments and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with implementation and administration of collective bargaining agreement provisions.
• Work with HR and payroll teams to resolve payroll issues and employee inquiries.
• Create reports, conduct payroll research, and analyze information across HRIS/payroll systems.
• Maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive employee and payroll information.
