Job summary

Lubbock County seeks an experienced administrator/ accountant to oversee the department's budgeting and financial operations. The role involves creating the departmental budget for review by the Director, Board of Judges, and Commissioners’ Court, and ensuring compliance with County Auditor’s timelines.

The position requires strong communication, organization, and public interaction skills, with the ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor’s degree; accounting degree preferred plus at least 1 year related experience.
• GAAP knowledge and ability to read/interpret policies and procedures.
• Experience working with governmental agencies and public sector environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Create departmental budget for approval by Director, Board of Judges, and Commissioners’ Court within required time frames.
• Monitor and modify internal control procedures.
• Research, write, and submit government and private grant applications.
• Monitor and report on financial and operational metrics to satisfy grant regulations.
• Maintain records of amounts due to vendors and request payments prior to due dates.
• Track income and expenditures and compare with budgeted amounts.
