Job summary

Cherry Bekaert LLP invites an Accounting Advisory Manager to oversee engagements on governmental accounting, including ACFR prep, GAAP compliance, and close processes. The role involves leading teams, drafting deliverables, and providing on-demand government accounting support for state and local entities.

The candidate will monitor industry standards (GASB), supervise staff, and develop advisory content while fostering client relationships and business growth. Travel up to 40% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred), Finance or other business discipline
• Active or in-process CPA and/or CGFM
• Minimum 4 years of public accounting experience or 7 years in state, county or municipality finance
• Practical knowledge of GASB standards
• Prior experience auditing or assisting with governmental entity close
• Prior experience with internal controls testing/d documentation
• Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and deadline-driven
• Proficiency with Excel (formulas, pivot tables)
• Willingness to travel up to 40%

Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and perform engagements including ACFR preparation and implementation of new accounting standards
• Assess client accounting challenges and develop tailored advisory solutions with timelines and scope
• Review ACFR for accuracy and completeness against benchmarks such as GFOA checklists
• Provide status updates to client leadership and supervise staff
• Develop technical specialization and serve as internal/external consultant
• Create content (articles, podcasts, webinars) on governmental accounting
• Identify opportunities for expanded services and foster business development
