Job summary

Cherry Bekaert is seeking an Accounting Advisory Manager to support government accounting engagements, including ACFR preparation, new standards implementation, and close processes. You will mentor junior staff, engage with clients, and draft deliverables while guiding project timelines and resources.

You will oversee complex government accounting issues under GAAP, stay current on GASB pronouncements, and help develop advisory content to grow the GPS accounting advisory group.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (preferred), Finance or other business discipline.
• Active or in-process CPA and/or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).
• Minimum 4 years of public accounting experience performing external audit or consulting or 7 years of experience within a state, county or municipality’s finance/accounting department.
• Practical knowledge of GASB and related standards.
• Prior experience auditing or assisting with the financial close for a governmental entity.
• Prior experience with internal controls including documentation and testing of controls.
• Excellent project management, analytical, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Solid organizational skills with attention to deadlines and detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products with data analysis capabilities (formulas, pivot tables, etc.).
• Ability to travel up to 40%.

Responsibilities

• Planning, managing, and performing a variety of engagements including but not limited to ACFR preparation, new accounting standards implementations, and government accounting support.
• Assessing client accounting challenges and developing tailored advisory solutions with timelines and scope.
• Evaluating governmental accounting situations under GAAP.
• Reviewing ACFR for accuracy against benchmarks (GFOA).
• Providing status updates to client leadership on tasks and findings.
• Overseeing engagement economics and resource management to meet goals.
• Supervising staff and developing professionals with firm tools and processes.
• Developing technical specialization and serving as a technical consultant internally and externally.
• Contributing to thought leadership (articles, podcasts, webinars) for GPS accounting advisory group.
• Serving as a trusted advisor and identifying opportunities for expanded services.
• Fostering external relationships for long-term business development.
