Are you a law enforcement professional drawn to providing service to your community? Do you have the personal skills and characteristics required to work positively with all individuals who comprise that community? If so, then please read on. Kalamazoo Valley Community College may have the perfect opportunity for you as a Public Safety Officer.

This part-time position reports to the Captain of Public Safety. A Public Safety Officer performs law enforcement functions on the grounds and around the perimeters of all Kalamazoo Valley Community College sites.

Duties include
  1. Patrolling campus locations and surrounding streets.
  2. Enforcing local and state laws and parking regulations.
  3. Providing service functions including directing traffic and assistance to students and staff.
  4. Responding to emergency situations of accidental, medical, industrial, and criminal nature, and taking appropriate action as needed.

Additional responsibilities include investigating criminal and non-criminal incident complaints received from the college community; writing reports involving incidents for presentation to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office and/or the College's Ombudsman; working with students and staff on crime prevention issues; developing and presenting related training as appropriate; and other related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
  • An Associate degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Candidates must have MCOLES certification and be First Aid/CPR certifiable.
  • Candidates selected to interview will be required to submit to criminal record background and credit history checks.
Preferred Qualifications And Experience
  • At least 3 years of law enforcement experience is strongly preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is strongly preferred.
Physical Demands

Extensive standing, walking, performing patrols, directing traffic, and providing physical assistance in emergency situations.
