Under the supervision of the shift sergeant or staff sergeant, with oversight by the public safety captains and broad oversight by the Director of Public Safety, the officer protects life and property through law enforcement and firefighting duties. This includes performing specialized emergency tasks, housekeeping, maintenance, and related work as required.

Responsibilities
- Enforce city and state laws and ordinances.
- Make arrests and issue citations for violations.
- Respond to emergencies and administer first aid.
- Patrol assigned areas, including school zones, and act as crossing guard if needed.
- Testify in court and maintain records.
- Investigate complaints, search for evidence, serve warrants.
- Respond to fire alarms, operate firefighting equipment, and participate in fire prevention inspections.
- Perform maintenance on firefighting gear and develop specialized skills.
- Maintain knowledge of departmental policies and motor vehicle laws.
- Operate departmental vehicles safely in all conditions.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Director or designee.
Minimum Qualifications
- 60 college credits, preferably supporting an associate's degree in Criminal Justice, Fire Science, or related field.
- At least 18 years of age and a U.S. citizen.
- Good moral character, pass background check, drug screen, and physical agility test.
- Completion of MCOLES basic training or ability to obtain it.
- Possess or able to obtain Firefighter I & II, Medical First Responder certifications.
- Proficient with computers, reports, and communications.
- Ability to remain calm under stress and manage conflicts.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting over 100 pounds and working in various environments.
