Job summary

Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department in Largo, MD is seeking an HR Operations professional to support confidential HR activities for a large public safety workforce. You will handle inquiries, assist with recruitment, orientations, and maintain personnel records.

The role emphasizes adherence to internal policies, data integrity, and close supervision while coordinating interviews and HR programs to ensure timely processing of personnel actions.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in HR/Personnel Management, Organizational Development, or related field.
• Equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Respond to non-technical HR inquiries from employees and outside entities.
• Support recruitment efforts, including participation in job fairs to explain career opportunities and application procedures.
• Conduct new employee orientations.
• Maintain personnel records and support the full employment life cycle with accurate employee data entry and retrieval.
• Interpret personnel rules and explain leave and payroll procedures.
• Support HR analysts, special committees, and departmental activities.
• Coordinate classification studies by explaining the process to employees.
• Distribute, collect, and review job analysis questionnaires.
• Conduct research, compile data, and assist with preparation of job analysis studies and reports.
• Review employment applications and support a Human Resources Analyst for assigned employment areas.
• Schedule and coordinate interview and selection proceedings.
• Monitor departmental recruitment activities to help ensure deadlines are met and vacancies are filled in a timely manner.
• Assist with administering and tracking written and performance examinations, including entering test scores into a database.
• Assist with coordination of human resources programs (awards, recreation, incentive program).
• Maintain official personnel files for active and inactive employees.
• Assist with preparing documentation for collective bargaining procedures.
• Compile personnel files, written opinions, and decisions for disciplinary action procedures.
• Collect, edit, and communicate updates to current and new policies and procedures.
