Job summary

City of Austin Building Services Department is seeking a Security Guard to protect buildings and people. You will engage with the public, perform safety inspections, investigate incidents, and support emergency response efforts to keep communities secure.

The role requires a high school diploma and at least one year in a related field, with strong communication and public-facing skills. Work hours may include evenings, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus one year of related experience.
• Knowledge of Federal, State, Local laws and city procedures.
• Ability to provide high level customer service and public safety.

Responsibilities

• Guard property and deter theft, trespassing, and vandalism.
• Conduct safety inspections of facilities and fire equipment.
• Respond to alarms and emergencies; assist with incident investigations.
• Provide security and information to the public and law enforcement as needed.
• Direct traffic, control crowds, and support after-hours events.
