Job summary

The City of Lubbock is seeking an entry-level Police Emergency Communications Center trainee to learn rapid data entry and high-stakes communication in a 24/7 PSAP environment. Trainees operate under supervision to handle emergency and non-emergency calls and input critical information into the CAD system.

During a structured six-month probationary period, candidates rotate across shifts, complete academy instruction, and must pass typing and written exams.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Typing test: 50 wpm with 90% accuracy.
• Pass audiogram, drug screen, and background investigation.
• No Class B Misdemeanor convictions within the last 10 years.
• No Class A Misdemeanor, Felony Convictions, or Family-Violence Convictions.

Responsibilities

• Answer raw, unvetted emergency and non-emergency lines rapidly and input data into the CAD system.
• Listen to high-volume police radio traffic and take detailed notes under time constraints.
• Maintain real-time situational awareness and coordinate rapid responses.
• Learn federally restricted network access and compliance protocols.
• Document call sheets with factual, concise records.
• Perform duties as assigned.
