Job summary

County of Yuba is seeking a Public Safety Dispatcher within the Sheriff’s Department. The incumbent handles 9-1-1 calls for sheriff, fire, medical, and rescue; dispatches personnel per procedures; and coordinates with field officers to ensure safety and effective response.

The ideal candidate must be flexible for shift work and mandated overtime, be self-motivated, responsible, and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from high school; 1 year of office support or customer contact experience.
• Valid typing certificate with a minimum of 35 net words per minute.
• Preferred: 30 semester units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in administrative justice, criminal justice, business administration or related field.
• P.O.S.T. Certified 120-hour Basic Dispatcher Course and at least one year of dispatcher experience with a recognized law enforcement agency.

Responsibilities

• Answer 9-1-1 system sheriff, fire, medical emergency and rescue calls; dispatch personnel following procedures.
• Maintain communication with officers in the field to ensure safety and provide back-up and information.
• Provide relief coverage for the records unit and perform related work as assigned.
• Work in shifts with ability to handle high-stress situations and coordinate with interdepartmental public safety agencies.
