Position Summary:

Under direct/indirect supervision, the Public Safety Dispatcher (I) performs a full range of telephone operational duties in a 24-hour facility. Receives and records emergency and routine business calls; processes and prioritizes incoming calls for police, security, and MCHS.

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certification
• Certification: Public Communicator License required upon hire or transfer to department.
• Training and Experience: Ability to read, write, understand and follow oral and written instructions; accurate typing skills; create a positive attitude toward the department. Ability to maintain consistent composure. Effective telephone skills. Must have a current Texas driver license.

Unusual Physical Demands And Working Conditions:

Willingness and/or ability to work rotating shifts, holidays, and weekends; work on an on-call basis, work overtime; work irregular duty assignments; work under undesirable and hazardous conditions; conform to department grooming standards; pass a personal background investigation, medical physical, drug screen, psychiatric examination, dispatch aptitude test, and oral interview; work alone; attend educational sessions as required; travel out of town for one day or more.
