Job summary

The City of Newton seeks an Emergency Telecommunications Dispatcher I (ETD I) to join its public safety communications team. You will receive 911 and non-emergency calls, evaluate incidents, and coordinate with police, fire, and EMS to deploy resources.

Training and ongoing development are provided within a structured, mission-focused environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to public service are essential.

Qualifications

• High School/GED required; 1–3 years related experience or equivalent.
• Associates or Bachelor’s preferred in criminal justice or related field.
• Must obtain MA State 911 certification within required time.

Responsibilities

• Receive and respond to emergency 911 calls and other inquiries.
• Evaluate emergency severity and determine appropriate response.
• Log and track calls and incidents; maintain accurate records.
• Operate CAD, radio, and telephone systems; coordinate with police, fire, and EMS.
