Job summary

Alliance Defending Freedom seeks a Legal Counselor, Public Policy to join our Government Affairs team in Lansdowne, VA. The role focuses on free speech, government censorship, and technology policy, analyzing legislation and drafting bills across federal and state levels.

You will develop analyses with experts, prepare summaries of bills, and provide testimony; extensive travel is required to engage policy groups and legislators, advancing ADF’s priorities.

Qualifications

• J.D. with active bar license in at least one US state.
• Minimum 1+ year experience in public policy advocacy, governmental relations, or legislative work.

Responsibilities

• Draft legislation and policies related to free speech and censorship, and protect speech and expression online and in various sectors.
• Review, track, and report on a large federal and state legislative portfolio affecting ADF’s priorities.
• Develop working knowledge of new legislation with a focus on free speech and censorship.
• Collaborate with issue area experts to develop analysis, position papers, and summaries of legislation.
• Conduct research and prepare reports analyzing the latest court precedent impacting ADF's priorities.
• Travel extensively to meet with policy groups, legislators, and stakeholders.
• Provide frequent testimony and presentations on the legal implications of proposed legislation.
• Foster relationships with government and policy allies.
• Speak publicly to the media and before crowds.
• Work collaboratively within ADF and with external allies.
