Job summary

Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is seeking a Full-time Security Officer to safeguard patrons and staff while maintaining a welcoming environment. Starting rate is $22.79/hour and the role requires availability for evenings, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The position involves patrolling, monitoring, and responding to incidents; documenting events; and coordinating with leadership and local authorities as needed to protect people and property.

Qualifications

• 1+ years’ related experience performing similar duties in settings that require highly visible public contact and conflict resolution.
• Must be able to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 200+ pounds occasionally.
• Good observation skills and the ability to respond quickly to incidents.
• Excellent oral communication and the ability to deal tactfully with staff and public.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Enforce the library’s rules of conduct for all patrons and visitors.
• Patrol and monitor facilities to prevent and respond to violations and security concerns.
• Evaluate problems related to staff, volunteers, patrons, and property and take appropriate actions.
• Explain rules and procedures to visitors and seek cooperation.
• Investigate disturbances and obtain police assistance when needed.
• Provide security presence and assist with incident documentation.
