Job summary

City of Saratoga Springs seeks Public Improvements Inspector I or II to oversee City capital projects and related infrastructure. You will liaise with the City Engineer, contractors, and residents, and maintain comprehensive inspection records.

Positions require driving credentials, OSHA training, and field safety oversight, with a Friday coverage schedule. Associates may advance to Inspector II with the right education and experience in civil construction.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of civil engineering principles and public works inspection methods.
• Understanding of contract plans, specifications and permit requirements.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and plans.

Responsibilities

• Inspect projects for compliance with contract plans and city/state/federal standards.
• Maintain daily reports, as‑builts and logs for contract payments.
• Document all work quantities and ensure proper construction methods.
• Assess erosion control, runoff, and safety on construction sites.
• Communicate with engineers, contractors, and residents regarding projects.
• Attend pre-construction meetings and ongoing education sessions.
• Document locations of city infrastructure using GIS basics.
• Review plans and propose changes to meet city standards.
