Job summary

City of Houston is seeking an experienced Inspector of Public Infrastructure to supervise inspections of municipal construction projects, review drawings and specs, and develop staff training programs. This on-site role requires CPII certification and a valid Texas driver's license.

Qualifications

• Requires an Associate's degree in a field closely related to inspection; or a high school diploma/GED with 18+ months of specialized inspection training.
• Five years of skilled construction experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field may substitute for up to four years of experience; vocational training may substitute year-for-year for up to four years.
• Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) certification or equivalent.
• Valid Texas driver's license and compliance with City driving policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervises inspections of public infrastructures for municipal projects to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
• Reviews drawings and specifications for municipal projects.
• Develops training programs to improve inspection staff knowledge.
• Manages inspection staff to support and maximize their effectiveness for all assigned construction projects.
• Supervises staff activities to ensure project compliance, training, mentoring and development.
• Investigates contract interpretations and field conditions for unusual issues and change of scope.
• Reviews and approves daily reports to ensure proper documentation.
• Responds to inquiries from the public, contractors and professionals and provides resolutions.

Education

Associate's degree or high school diploma with certification/licensing in a technical inspection field
