Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) seeks an experienced Engineer to support transportation projects and programs across bridge, structural, hydraulic, and drainage disciplines. Training is provided with opportunities for career progression within the Engineering job series.

Positions are located in Jefferson Parish and report to an Engineer 6-Supervisor; licensure requirements are described above and eligibility for out-of-state applicants is noted.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice professional engineering.
• Applications will be accepted from persons licensed to practice professional engineering in states other than Louisiana; LA license required prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

• Assist with bridge and structural design activities for transportation infrastructure projects.
• Review or prepare plans, calculations, specifications, estimates, and structural details.
• Perform or assist with bridge load ratings, structural evaluations, or preservation activities.
• Provide technical support related to bridge rehabilitation, replacement, or new capacity projects.
• Coordinate with project managers, consultants, districts, and construction staff.
• Review bridge-related project documentation for accuracy and compliance with standards.
• Support development or maintenance of design guidance, standards, procedures, or documents.
• Assist with emergency response or technical reviews involving bridge or structural concerns.
