Job summary

Ocala Housing Authority (OHA) is seeking a Public Housing Counselor I to determine family eligibility and continued participation in the Public Housing Program. The role involves evaluating income per federal regulations for initial certification, interim adjustments, and annual exams, and handling data entry and legal documents.

The position reports to the Property Manager and requires knowledge of federal regulations and the Florida Landlord and Tenant Act.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with two years of college in social work, counseling, business or finance or equivalent experience in subsidized housing/case management.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to multitask and maintain confidentiality.
• Proficiency with Word, Excel, Publisher and internet navigation.
• Typing speed of 35 wpm.

Responsibilities

• Verify family's household income.
• Prepare legal documents.
• Prepare reports.
• Maintain relationships with clients, staff and the general public.
• Refer families to other social agencies.
• Knowledge and application of Federal Regulations and Florida Landlord and Tenant Act as it applies to job functions.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
