Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks a City Research Scientist to lead data activities, build dashboards, and perform advanced analyses across multiple data sources. You will develop data collection systems, ensure data quality, and mentor junior staff in a fast-paced public health environment.

Required qualifications include a master’s degree (or doctorate) in a relevant field and substantial experience with SAS, SQL, or R, plus proficiency in Word, Excel, and

Qualifications

• Master's degree in an appropriate field; doctoral degree preferred for higher levels.
• 3+ years of data processing, cleaning, manipulation, and analysis in large datasets.
• Experience with SAS, SQL or R for data analysis and reporting.
• Experience supervising a team of data analysts is preferred.
• Experience with Power BI or similar data visualization tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead programmatic data activities including data collection system development, dashboards, reporting, and ad hoc analysis.
• Translate program needs into data requirements and data management solutions.
• Oversee data in the Maven-like data system; monitor quality and drive quality improvement projects.
• Prepare data for analysis and maintain data documentation and business rules.
• Develop process and outcome indicators to track program performance and inform operations.
• Design and execute data analysis projects using SQL/SAS/R to produce tables and reports.
• Present results clearly to non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
