Job summary

Charleston County Government is seeking a supervisory custodial lead to oversee cleaning staff in the Lonnie Hamilton Public Service Building and other facilities. The role involves coordinating day-to-day operations, safety policy enforcement, and event support.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED with 3–5 years custodial work; at least 2 years in supervision and knowledge of janitorial methods, OSHA and EPA safety rules. A SC driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or GED) plus 3–5 years custodial work, 2 years in a supervisory role, or equivalent education/experience.
• Knowledge of janitorial methods, procedures, materials, chemicals, disinfectants and equipment; safety regulations (OSHA/EPA) for public buildings.
• Ability to plan, assign, train, inspect and evaluate supervisory staff; clear English communication; write reports; use a PC; and legally drive a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Assign and supervise custodial staff activities.
• Develop, update and evaluate work and safety standards, policies and procedures.
• Assist in facility maintenance planning.
• Maintain personnel records and work schedules.
• Evaluate subordinates' performance and participate in disciplinary processes.
• Coordinate custodial operations for special events.
• Communicate with staff, clients, vendors, and administrators.
• Receive, investigate and resolve complaints regarding custodial services.
• Perform field checks and ensure completion of work assignments.
• Move furniture and equipment as needed.
• Manage inventory of janitorial supplies and equipment.
• Drive to job sites to facilitate custodial operations.
