Job summary

City of Durham is seeking a Communications Lead in the Community Partnerships and Engagement Department to engage residents, educate the public, inform stakeholders, and promote city programs and initiatives. This role focuses on resident engagement, public information, and marketing in a fast-paced onsite environment.

The position reports to the Department Director and involves designing informational materials, coordinating events, and developing social media campaigns.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in business or public administration, communications, or directly related field.
• One year of professional communications, web and graphic design, media relations, public information, or video production experience.
• Three to five years of professional communications, web and graphic design, or public information experience preferred.
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements public relations, communications, and/or marketing programs, activities, initiatives, and events; designs, edits, and develops print, digital, social media, website, and other materials; oversees and/or designs graphics and layouts.
• As assigned, takes photographs and maintains photo files; reviews content and materials prepared by other staff; develops proposals; and ensures compliance with quality, brand and design standards.
• Collaborates with community groups, business associations, residents, the media, City departments, and/or external agencies; attends meetings and public functions; responds to media requests; establishes and maintains partnerships; responds to inquiries; conducts training; and develops presentations.
