Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field is required.
• Two (2) or more years of creating internal or external communications or similar experience is required.
• Valid driver license is required.

The city is seeking a resourceful and collaborative Public Information Specialist to join our Communications and Marketing team. From creating useful content and keeping webpages current to managing ongoing communications and keeping employees informed, you’ll help residents and staff stay connected to the work of our organization.

The successful candidate is a versatile communicator who can develop written, photo, video or graphic content as needed and work with departments across the organization to deliver accurate, timely communications. They are organized, comfortable managing recurring responsibilities and one-time projects, and able to recognize simple opportunities to make a meaningful impact.

Under general supervision, the Public Information Specialist supports both internal and external communications from planning through execution.

• Acts as lead for the City’s internal newsletter, with support from other members of the communications team.

• Collaborates with team members who lead video production, design and external communication channels, contributing directly to video, photography and publications as needed.

• Contributes and updates internal and external website content.

• Works with team to develop content for various communication channels, execute the strategy and track results and progress.

• Ensures website content is accurate and on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality and tone, and optimized for search and social promotion.

• Assists in the coverage of various special events, including groundbreakings, ribbon cutting ceremonies and City Council events.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Communications, Journalism, or a related field is required.

• Two (2) or more years of creating internal or external communications or similar experience is required. Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

• Valid driver license.
