Job summary

Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is seeking an entry-level Public Benefits Specialist for our Ellensburg Community Services Office. This on-site role helps individuals access financial assistance, nutrition, and Medicaid by interviewing clients and processing applications.

You’ll learn state eligibility rules through classroom and on-the-job training, handle inquiries by phone and in person, and progress through a structured training plan with clear advancement

Responsibilities

• Process initial and ongoing eligibility determinations for financial, SNAP, and Medicaid programs.
• Conduct intensive interviews and independently determine eligibility.
• Gather and review data, applications, and verifications for each program.
• Process applications and case actions according to federal and state requirements.
• Explain program requirements and procedures to clients and answer questions.
