Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Lemont, IL is offering a Government and Public Affairs Intern position at the Downers Grove refinery site. The paid 12-week summer internship focuses on communications, community engagement, and government relations, with hands-on duties across four core areas.

Interns will write press materials, assist with employee communications, coordinate events, and engage with local officials while building professional relationships.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in Communications, Marketing, Business or related field Bachelor’s Degree program
• Sophomore status (completed freshman year)
• Overall GPA 3.0 or above
• Available to work forty hours per week
• Basic MS Office knowledge
• Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
• Must have valid driver's license

Responsibilities

• Assist with communications, including press releases, newsletters and media coordination
• Assist with employee relations through event coordination for CITGO employees and families
• Support community relations through sponsorships, volunteering and education programs
• Coordinate government relations activities with local legislative delegation and officials
• Prepare end-of-internship summary presentation
