Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Lake Charles, LA invites applications for an Industrial Hygiene Intern. You will work with safety professionals and operations to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards in refinery settings.

Position available Spring, Summer or Fall 2027. Requires full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in related fields, completion of 30 semester hours, and a 3.0+ GPA. TWIC eligibility is required for access to regulated facilities.

Qualifications

• Full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology, Safety, Occupational Health, Emergency Preparedness, or Public Health.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Must have completed 30 semester hours in the topics above.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field surveys to ensure control measures conform to specified requirements.
• Perform routine monitoring in accordance with the CITGO exposure assessment strategy.
• Manage air monitoring equipment to ensure it is properly calibrated, maintained, and repaired.
• Review risk assessments and update exposure profiles based on monitoring results.

Job Summary

An Industrial Hygiene Intern at a CITGO Business Unit will be assigned to Industrial Hygiene. The Intern actively works with the Business Unit's safety and health professionals along with operations in their designated operating areas to independently anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control health hazards associated with the work environment and refinery processes.

  ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: The Maritime Transportation Security Act requires all persons who will need unescorted access to a regulated facility to have a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), issued in accordance with the rules established by the United States Coast Guard and the Transportation Security Administration. Candidates selected for employment must obtain a TWIC card.
