Job summary

CITGO Petroleum Corporation in Lake Charles, LA invites a Safety Intern to work with Safety Engineering, Emergency Preparedness and related fields. You will assist in implementing and improving the safety management system while coordinating with unit safety professionals and operations.

The role is available Spring, Summer or Fall 2027 and requires you to be enrolled full-time in a relevant degree and to have completed 30 semester hours with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, plus a valid driver's license

Qualifications

• Full-time student pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Fire Protection and Safety Engineering Technology, Safety, Occupational Health, Emergency Preparedness, or Public Health.
• Must have completed 30 semester hours in the topics above.
• Overall GPA of 3.0 or above.

Responsibilities

• Assist in field surveys/audits of business unit operations.
• Assist in tracking and analyzing HSE data to expand reporting.
• Develop HSE posters, HSE moments, HSE flashes, and other training materials.
• Assist in improvement initiatives around contractor HSE incident management and ISNetworld usage.
• Enter data into a central database.
• Provide support for facility HSE Committee(s) / Team(s).
• Participate in HSE Management Systems review or self-assessments.
• Perform special projects as requested.

Job Summary

A Safety Intern may be assigned to Safety Engineering, Safety Management, Emergency Preparedness, Industrial Hygiene, Employee Health, and Contractor Safety. A Safety Intern actively works with the Business Unit safety and health professionals along with operations in their designated operating areas to implement, update, and improve the safety management system.
