Job summary

Stony Brook University Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse 1 (T&RC) for the Psychiatry Acute unit on the night shift. The RN will assess patients, develop care plans, administer direct care and medications, and maintain infection control in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Applicants should hold a New York State RN license or be eligible, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing with 1 year of acute hospital experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least one year of previous hospital acute care experience preferred.
• Acute care is defined as medical services for short-term, intensive illnesses requiring vigilant monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and coordinate nursing care with other health disciplines involved in the treatment plan.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including discharge planning.
• Administer direct care and medications as needed.
• Practice infection control and maintain a safe environment.
• Communicate changes in patient condition to the Charge RN/ Clinician and document care in the medical record.
