Job summary

FirstGroup plc in Glasgow Caledonia Depot is seeking a NVQ/SVQ Level 3 qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic. You will diagnose faults, perform repairs, service vehicles, and respond to breakdowns, with documentation kept to high regulatory standards.

We welcome ex-forces personnel with an engineering apprenticeship or experienced automotive engineers seeking a change. 37 hours, early shifts with weekends on a rotating basis.

Qualifications

• NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds equivalent) in vehicle maintenance & repair.
• Experience on PSV/HGV vehicles is desirable but not essential.
• Valid UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and perform mechanical repairs to PSV/HGV vehicles.
• Carry out scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Respond to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries as needed.
• Road test vehicles and ensure accurate documentation and compliance with regs.
• Maintain safety standards and high-quality workmanship.

PSV/HGV Mechanic

We are now looking for an NVQ/SVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) qualified PSV/HGV Mechanic to join the busy team at our First Bus Glasgow Caledonia Depot – PSV or HGV mechanical experience is great however we love to hear from ex-Forces personnel with an engineeringapprenticeship qualification, and experienced engineers from other automotive sectors looking for a change.

Key Details

• £21.54 per hour
• Approx. £41,442 per annum
• Minimum 37 hours per week
• 5 days over 7 (including 1 weekend in 3)
• 6am-2pm (start/finish times negotiable)
• £2,000 joining bonus!

Further pay increase scheduled for April 2027.

In this hands‑on role, you’ll keep vehicles running safely and reliably by diagnosing faults, completing mechanical repairs and replacing parts when needed. You’ll carry out scheduled servicing, routine inspections and preventative maintenance, as well as responding to on‑road breakdowns and recoveries. You’ll also road test vehicles where required and make sure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with regulations and health and safety standards.

What We’re Looking For

• Do you have a Level 3 NVQ/SVQ or City & Guilds equivalent in vehicle maintenance & repair?
• Do you have experience working on HGV or PSV?
• Do you have a valid UK driving licence?
• Do you also have a strong attention to detail and a passion for mechanics?
