Job description

Job Summary

The candidate will be coordinating several studies focusing on brain changes and motor and cognitive dysfunction in Alzheimer’s disease. For these projects, the study coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of data collection and management, which include: a) participant recruitment/screening/enrollment; b) in-person testing of participants using cognitive and motor behavioral measures, and overseeing the brain MRI data collection; c) extracting participant information from existing databases; and d) data entry (REDCap), management, and quality control of study data. The candidate will be closely interacting with the principal and co-investigators and will interact with study participants on a weekly basis. Study participants are older adults (60+) with and without cognitive problems.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

1. Recruitment of study participants via email and over the phone, and through communication with collaborators and clinical faculty
2. Screening of potential study participants
3. Leading cognitive and motor behavioral assessments of participants
4. Setting up a REDCap database for entry of study data
5. Data scoring, entry into the REDCap database, and organization and management of output files of the computerized cognitive and motor tests
6. Extracting data from electronic patient files (e.g. EPIC )
7. Handling participant reimbursement
8. Communicating with the institutional review board
9. Training of students in participant screening and data scoring, entry and management
10. Co-organizing the weekly lab meeting

May maintain contact with IRB and prepare and submit IRB documents. May ensure proper collection, processing and shipment of specimens. May perform functions required of the Clinical Research Assistant as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. IRB CITI Course in the Protection of Human Research subjects certificate obtained within six months of hire and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Some departments may require IATA DGR training within six months.

Preferences

1) Someone who has affinity with aging, cognitive dysfunction (dementia), motor behavioral functioning, and neuroscience.
2) Previous experience with coordinating a study, especially data management and behavioral assessments is preferred.
3) Hands-on experience with the EPIC system is a plus.
4) Coding skills (Python, MATLAB , R, shell) are an advantage.
