Job summary

Becoming is seeking a Machinist / Prototype Fabrication Engineer to translate designs into physical hardware in a fast-paced R&D setting. You will work with engineers to prototype, iterate, and fabricate precision parts from CAD drawings and sketches.

You should be proficient with CNC milling/turning, manual mills, and inspection techniques, and comfortable collaborating across teams to push rapid prototyping of unusual geometries and low-volume parts.

Qualifications

• Substantial hands-on machining experience.
• Ability to operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual equipment.
• Independently take a component from drawing or CAD through fabrication.
• Understanding GD&T, tolerances, fits, surface finishes, and inspection.
• Strong manufacturability intuition and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Machine precision components for experimental hardware.
• Operate CNC mills, lathes, and manual machining equipment.
• Build custom fixtures, jigs, adapters, enclosures, and experimental components.
• Work from CAD, engineering drawings, sketches, and early-stage concepts.
• Advise engineers on manufacturability, tolerances, materials, and fabrication approaches.
• Rapidly modify components in response to experimental results.
• Develop machining strategies for unusual geometries and low-volume parts.
• Inspect components and verify critical dimensions.
• Support assembly, troubleshooting, repair, and modification of experimental hardware.
• Help build a world-class internal rapid-prototyping capability.
