Job summary

Amgen is seeking an Associate Scientist in Discovery Proteomics in South San Francisco to expand LC-MS/MS‑based proteomics capabilities.

You will execute quantitative workflows, prepare samples from diverse biological matrices, and collaborate with biology, bioinformatics and automation teams to generate high-quality data. This is a lab-based, on-site role supporting preclinical discovery.

Qualifications

  • Basic qualifications include a Master’s degree, or a Bachelor’s with 2 years of scientific experience, or an Associate’s with 4 years of experience, or a high school diploma with 6 years of experience.
  • Preferred qualifications include a degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, molecular or cell biology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on proteomic sample preparation experience is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Proteome Discoverer, Spectronaut, DIA-NN or similar software and data-quality assessment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and optimize proteomics workflows including sample prep, peptide fractionation, LC and MS acquisition for DIA, TMT, label-free DDA and PRM.
  • Prepare samples from cell lines and other biological matrices using enrichment and proximity labeling workflows.
  • Operate LC-MS systems across vendor platforms, monitor data quality, perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Process and evaluate proteomic data using software tools and collaborate with bioinformatics teams.
  • Analyze results and identify technical issues in collaboration with project scientists.
  • Communicate experimental plans, progress and results to the team and cross-functional collaborators.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, instrument performance, and analyses in line with data-integrity practices.
