Job summary

Johnson & Johnson Biologics Discovery in Spring House, PA seeks a Principal Scientist, Protein Purification, Team Lead to guide a multidisciplinary group delivering purified antibodies, multispecifics, and other biologics for preclinical studies.

You will set purification strategy, lead a team of scientists, and partner across discovery and development to advance therapeutic leads with robust data and scalable processes.

Qualifications

• PhD in biochemistry, biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, protein science, or a related discipline; 5+ years pharma/biotech biologics experience.
• Experience leading scientists and building an inclusive, accountable team.
• Deep expertise in purification/characterization of proteins, antibodies, or biologics; hands-on chromatography/HPLC/FPLC.
• Experience transferring scalable purification processes to development partners.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop the team; coach scientists and create an environment for growth.
• Drive lead-selection decisions; define molecule-quality strategies and data-driven decisions.
• Set purification strategy and handoff to development partners for antibodies and recombinant proteins.
• Apply technical judgment with chromatography, FPLC, HPLC and analytical methods to balance purity, recovery, speed, and scalability.
• Improve automation and data workflows to strengthen throughput and scientist experience.
• Deliver results through cross-functional partnership across discovery and development.
