Flagship Pioneering, Inc. is seeking a Research Associate II to expand protein production across bulk expression and high-throughput panels.

You will execute scalable expression, purification, normalization, and characterization workflows to feed design–build–test cycles. The role requires practical experience with recombinant protein production, chromatographic purification at preparative and high-throughput scales, and meticulous record-keeping.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioengineering or related field with 1–4 years of experience, or a master’s with 0–2 years.
• Hands-on recombinant protein expression and multi-liter culture growth.
• Experience operating ÄKTA FPLC with UNICORN; design and troubleshoot purification methods.
• Proficiency across multiple purification modalities and scale-out to high-throughput formats.
• Strong organization and traceability; core molecular biology skills including cloning and transformation.
• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot, and meet rapid timelines.

Responsibilities

• Execute multi-liter expression campaigns in bacteria from transformation to harvest and lysis.
• Design, build, and run preparative purification on ÄKTA FPLC using UNICORN.
• Deliver milligram-to-gram quantities of pure protein and troubleshoot-yield issues.
• Perform automated purification, normalization, and quality assessment at scale.
• Operate and maintain liquid handlers and purification platforms; run high-throughput analytics.
• Translate methods between scales, from preparative to miniaturized formats.
