Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a P&C Technician to support installation, testing, operation and maintenance of protection and control devices across the system. The role requires handling protective relays, SCADA interfaces, PLCs, and related communications gear, with emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

This position involves heavy physical work, potential travel, and rotation to support emergencies and outages.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology, electronic technology or related technology field.
• Equivalent education/experience will be determined by the hiring manager and may include military training/technical experience.
• No previous work experience required.
• Physical demand level is Heavy and travel/overtime may be required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and meet vehicle operation requirements.
• Must complete Physical Abilities Test (PAT) as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist in acceptance and installation tests on protection, control, and measurement devices in stations.
• Assist in installation, maintenance, and operation of power line carriers, station SCADA, and related communications equipment.
• Perform switching under direct supervision of qualified personnel.
• Maintain test and automotive equipment in good working order for safe operation.
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports and drawings as required.
• Assist with diagnosing trouble and taking corrective action to repair equipment.
