Job summary

NY STATE ELECTRIC & GAS CORP is seeking an Engineer for Protection & Control to design, configure, maintain, and renew protection systems for AVANGRID’s electric delivery infrastructure in New York. Site locations include Kirkwood or Rochester, NY, with in-office work.

Responsibilities cover design, analysis, and coordination across teams to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-effective project delivery. The role requires 4+ years in engineering (or 1 year in protection & control), a B.S.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in Engineering or 1 year in Protection & Control
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Technology; MS preferred; FE exam preferred
• Advanced knowledge of power system analysis and protection standards
• Experience with power system protection applications such as ASPEN OneLiner
• Knowledge of FERC/NERC/NPCC and state regulations
• IEEE-1547 knowledge

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering design, estimating, and analysis of electric transmission and substation protection systems
• Review and approve protection system designs and contractor work
• Develop technical specifications, standards, contracts and purchase orders
• Direct engineering contractors and consultants in protection & control projects
• Review large customer interconnections and energy resource interconnections to substations and circuits
• Analyze distribution fault event operations and generate fault analysis reports
• Maintain compliance programs and participate in audits
• Travel to worksites as needed
