Job summary

American Electric Power in New Albany, OH is seeking a Protection and Control Designer. You will perform CAD drafting to support protection systems, design electrical schematics, and use AutoCAD Electrical to develop accurate substation drawings.

You will review vendor drawings, run electrical studies, and collaborate with engineers and field staff during testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting while maintaining records and complying with safety programs.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in CAD or related engineering technology or equivalent experience with 1–2 years of relevant experience, or high school graduate with 6 years of experience in electric utility draft/CAD work.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and schematics.
• Support creation and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents and records.
• Read and extract information from verbal communications, sketches and vendors' catalogs for work planning.
• Perform mathematical calculations and use CAD software.
• Coordinate with other company groups to ensure safe, efficient work.
• Assist in training AEP personnel in basic position skills.
