Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) in New Albany, OH is seeking a Protection and Control Designer to join our team. You will design protection systems to detect and isolate faults and create electrical schematics using CAD tools to support substation drawings.

You will review vendor drawings, perform electrical studies, and collaborate with engineers and field staff during testing, commissioning and troubleshooting. Overtime and shift work may be required with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in CAD drafting or related engineering technology with 1–2 years of relevant experience.
• Equivalency: high school graduate with 6 years of electric utility/drafting experience.
• Overtime, call-out overtime and shift work may be required; travel >10%.

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Support documentation for facilities and equipment; reports and records.
• Review vendor drawings and specs for compliance with standards.
• Collaborate with engineers and field staff during testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
