Job summary

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office seeks an Investigator to join a team dedicated to evidence-based investigations supporting criminal prosecutions. Work is performed under general supervision in a collaborative office environment.

Responsibilities include conducting independent investigations, locating and interviewing witnesses, interviewing and preparing statements, analyzing data, and assisting with evidence for trial. The role may involve subpoenas and potential testimony.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in criminal justice or related field with 1 year of law enforcement experience.
• Knowledge of interviewing and evidence handling best practices.
• Ability to interview witnesses and analyze information for investigations.

Job Responsibilities

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office conducts evidence-based investigations into alleged violations of city, county, state, and federal laws in support of criminal prosecutions. At this time, we are seeking to hire anInvestigator. Work is performed under general supervision in this team-oriented office.
In this professional role, responsibilities include:

• Completing independent investigations which may include obtaining, verifying, and/or validating evidence related to cases
• Locating and interviewing witnesses
• Conducting interviews, preparing statements, and analyzing data
• Visiting, recording, and photographing/diagraming crime scenes
• Assisting with evidence preparation for trial
• Serving subpoenas which may include victim/witness transportation
• Appearing as a witness and testifying at trials if needed.
• Many other duties as required.

Investigators at the Prosecutor's Office are integral parts of the prosecution team, who demonstrate a commitment to serving victims of crime.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associates degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies, or other relevant field with at least one (1) year of law enforcement experience, is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

2. Must possessvalidMichigan driver’s license and have access to transportation for the performance of job duties.

Desirable Knowledge & Skills: Criminal investigative experience, licensed as an Investigator by the State of Michigan, and fluency in one or more languages use by the community.
