Job summary

Ottawa County's 58th District Court in Holland, MI is seeking a Case Analyst to support prosecutions across divisions. Under the Office Manager, you will coordinate witnesses, assist prosecutors with trial prep, analyze cases, serve subpoenas and complete special projects for the Prosecuting Attorney.

The role requires a Bachelor's in criminal justice or related field plus five years of investigative experience and a valid Michigan driver's license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, legal studies or related field.
• Five years of progressive experience in criminal justice investigations.
• Valid Michigan driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
• Knowledge of LEIN and investigative resources; strong written/verbal skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with trial preparation and witness management for prosecutors.
• Coordinate transportation for non-victim witnesses needing travel assistance.
• Assist with restitution determinations for non-CVR offenses.
• Serve subpoenas to difficult-to-locate witnesses using investigative tools.
• Appear and testify in court when required.
• Complete special projects assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney.

• Review jail correspondence as directed by the Prosecuting Attorney.
• Maintain confidentiality of case information and sensitive records.
• Address FOIA requests in coordination with the County Legal Department.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Under the supervision of the Office Manager, conducts case analysis activities to support the prosecution of cases across all divisions. Responsibilities include coordinating witnesses for court proceedings, assisting prosecuting attorneys with trial preparation, analyzing cases as requested, serving subpoenas, and completing special projects assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney.

This is a full-time, benefited position working at the 58th District Court, at 85 West 8th Street, Holland, MI. The schedule is Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Travel to other county locations, as needed.

The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Assists with trial preparation and execution, including but not limited to, scheduling and attending non-victim witness meetings with the prosecuting attorney and managing witnesses during trial.
2. Coordinates transportation for non-victim witnesses who are unable to travel to court independently.
3. Assists attorneys with restitution determinations for non-CVR crimes.
4. Assists with serving subpoenas to witnesses who are difficult to locate, utilizing investigative software and tools.
5. Appears as a witness and testifies at court hearings when required.
6. Completes special projects assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney.
7. Obtains out-of-county records at the request of the Prosecuting Attorney or designee.
8. Requests and reviews jail correspondence as directed by the Prosecuting Attorney.
9. Maintains a high level of confidentiality regarding case information and sensitive records.
10. Addresses and responds to FOIA requests in coordination with the County Legal Department.
11. Performs other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, legal studies, or other relevant field combined with five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in criminal justice investigations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

1. Thorough working knowledge of criminal investigations, or in law enforcement with a focus on investigations.
2. Familiarity with investigation techniques and tools (such as databases, informational resources and public records), general concepts of criminal law, and arrest procedures.
3. Working knowledge of LEIN reports, including the ability to read, interpret, and apply information obtained through the Law Enforcement Information Network.
4. Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
6. Skill in working effectively with a variety of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
7. Experience in evidence handling; establishing and maintaining chain of custody.
8. Skill in prioritizing multiple time sensitive assignments.
9. Experience in field interviews of diverse citizens.
10. Familiarity with testifying under oath in a courtroom setting.

Note: Verbal and written fluency in Spanish, Cambodian, Lao or other language commonly spoken by one or more demographic groups represented in the population strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:
