Job summary

Kent County Prosecutor’s Office is seeking an Investigator to conduct evidence-based investigations, interview witnesses, and support prosecutions in a team-oriented office.

The role requires an Associates degree with at least one year of law enforcement experience, and a valid Michigan driver’s license with access to transportation. Fluency in community languages is desirable to serve diverse victims and witnesses.

Qualifications

• Associates degree with at least 1 year of law enforcement experience.
• Must possess Michigan driver's license and access to transportation.
• Desirable knowledge includes licensed Investigator in Michigan and fluency in languages used by the community.

Responsibilities

• Complete independent investigations and verify evidence.
• Locate and interview witnesses.
• Conduct interviews, prepare statements, and analyze data.
• Visit, record, and diagram crime scenes.
• Assist with evidence preparation for trial.
• Serve subpoenas and arrange victim/witness transportation.
• Appear as a witness and testify at trials when needed.
• Other duties as required.

The Kent County Prosecutor’s Office conducts evidence-based investigations into alleged violations of city, county, state, and federal laws in support of criminal prosecutions. At this time, we are seeking to hire anInvestigator. Work is performed under general supervision in this team-oriented office.

In this professional role, responsibilities include:

• Completing independent investigations which may include obtaining, verifying, and/or validating evidence related to cases


• Locating and interviewing witnesses


• Conducting interviews, preparing statements, and analyzing data


• Visiting, recording, and photographing/diagraming crime scenes


• Assisting with evidence preparation for trial


• Serving subpoenas which may include victim/witness transportation


• Appearing as a witness and testifying at trials if needed.


• Many other duties as required.

Investigators at the Prosecutor's Office are integral parts of the prosecution team, who demonstrate a commitment to serving victims of crime.

1. Associates degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, sociology, legal studies, or other relevant field with at least one (1) year of law enforcement experience, is required; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.




2. Must possessvalidMichigan driver’s license and have access to transportation for the performance of job duties.

Desirable Knowledge & Skills:

Criminal investigative experience, licensed as an Investigator by the State of Michigan, and fluency in one or more languages use by the community.
