Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Two to five years of experience in the legal field.
• Member of the Michigan Bar Association.
• Licensed to practice law in all Michigan courts.
• Considerable knowledge of legal research and writing.
• Knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence.
• Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws and regulations.
• Ability to analyze legal documents and instruments.
• Ability to work with the public, law enforcement, and government units.
• Computer skills for word processing and spreadsheets; familiarity with software programs.
• Ability to pass a background check and fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

• Review and authorize warrant requests and juvenile petitions for police.
• Assist in prosecuting complaints and preparing related legal advice.
• Furnish information on inquiries submitted to the Office of Prosecuting Attorney.
• Prepare search warrants for police departments.
• Serve as a legal advisor to county officials and employees.
• Prosecute misdemeanors, felonies, and civil infractions.
• Prosecute and defend civil cases for the county.
• Process extradition cases.
• Serve as a 24-hour on-call prosecutor for all law enforcement agencies.
• Consult with victims of juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony crimes as required.
• Perform related work as required.

Education

Graduation from an accredited law school

Two to five years of experience

Michigan Bar Association

Licensed to practice law in all Michigan courts

Computer skills for word processing and spreadsheets

Legal research and writing
