Job summary

Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan is seeking an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to join the County Prosecutor's Office.

Responsibilities include reviewing police reports, appearing in court for various proceedings, researching statutes, and handling appeals as needed. The role requires clear communication, integrity, and dedication to the Victims’ Rights Act and public service.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and law degree (JD) and licensed to practice law in Michigan.
• Considerable knowledge of Michigan laws and regulations.
• Ability to organize well and present information clearly.
• Ability to work effectively with the public and fellow employees.
• Ability to see, hear, and speak effectively.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Review police reports and make charging decisions for summonses and warrants.
• Appear in court for arraignments, pretrial conferences, preliminary exams, motions hearings, probation and bond violations, and trials.
• Prepare for court proceedings by researching case law and statutes; prepare and respond to motions and briefs.
• Appear for and conduct mental health hearings.
• Confer with defense attorneys, probation agents, and law enforcement.
• Discuss prosecution and strategy of cases with staff attorneys.
• Prosecute and defend appeals as assigned and appear before Appellate Courts.
• Adhere to and enforce the Crime Victims’ Rights Act.
• Maintain consistent and punctual attendance as an essential function.
• All other duties as assigned.
