Job summary

Blue Origin is hiring a mechanical engineer to lead the design, development, and testing of heat exchangers and related thermalfluid systems. You will develop requirements, specifications, and design documentation for cores and assemblies, balancing thermal performance against pressure drop, mass, and manufacturability.

You will select materials, create GD&T-compliant drawings, and drive testing plans with data correlation to predictions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong application of first principles in heat transfer and thermodynamics.
  • Experience with heat exchangers or high-pressure/cryogenic systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME BPVC and API.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and testing of heat exchangers and related thermalfluid systems.
  • Develop system requirements, specs, and design documentation for cores and assemblies.
  • Design and optimize geometries and components balancing thermal effectiveness and pressure drop.
  • Select materials considering thermal cycling, creep, fatigue, and corrosion resistance.
  • Create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
  • Lead component and system level testing, plan execution, and data reduction.
  • Troubleshoot design/operational issues with risk assessment.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and QA to ensure producibility.
