Job summary

Ursa Major seeks a Propulsion Engineer I to define, integrate, and execute propulsion systems for hypersonic vehicles. You’ll own a system from concept through flight demonstration, balancing propulsion design with vehicle integration and test.

The role requires hands-on hardware work, fast learning, and strong systems thinking to drive technical decisions in a fast-paced program. A U.S. Security Clearance is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 1–3 years in propulsion systems or propulsion-focused vehicle development; internships okay.
  • Proficient in CAD and drafting; GD&T knowledge per ASME Y14.5.
  • Hands-on with fluid, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Able to obtain and maintain U.S. Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conceptual and analytical design of propulsion components (tanks, structures, feed systems, propellant management).
  • Use first-principles thinking to guide design decisions.
  • Support rapid design iterations, testing, data analysis, and hardware work.
  • Modify existing components for performance, manufacturability, and limitations.
  • Assist with test planning and execution (ground/flight) and failure investigations.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, analysis, and test teams to reduce variation.
  • Interface with customers and IPTs during reviews and TIMs.
  • Support manufacturability and producibility considerations.
