Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Development Technician II to advance solid propulsion projects from early development to LRIP readiness. You will collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes, document knowledge, and support tight timeframes with a hands-on approach.

The role emphasizes 5S, continuous improvement, and active input on tooling, training, and daily production transactions, with a focus on safety and quality across multi-team efforts.

Qualifications

• Safety-oriented mindset with focus on quality and development processes.
• Attention to detail and situational awareness.
• Able to lift 50lbs without assistance.
• Knowledge of milling, turning, and other machining operations.
• Advanced knowledge/aptitude around mechanical systems and tools.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings and designs.
• Experience handling hazardous chemicals and materials (beyond standard solvents).
• Experience utilizing metrology instruments and tools.
• Experience working with engineering to develop/improve processes and standard operating procedures.
• 4+ years of experience working in a manufacturing or development environment.
• Ability to wear a respirator.

Responsibilities

• The Development Technician II will report to the Development Team Lead and work alongside other development technicians and engineering teams to bring products from early development to LRIP state.
• Help engineers red line and improve in-process work instructions while using rough drafts to build development rocket motors.
• Collaborate with engineering during time-critical processes to ensure documentation is shared with responsible parties.
• Work a flexible schedule to tackle unknown hurdles as a team.
• Use problem-solving skills to improve processes across teams with a self-starter mindset.
• Provide guidance to Operations Technicians on LRIP products and problems that may arise.
• Provide basic training on development processes as they approach LRIP status.
• Assist engineering with fabricating and installing custom tooling for machines and pre-production hardware.
• Lead 5S and continuous improvement activities.
• Complete transactions in computer production systems daily or weekly.
• Complete certification training and maintain required certifications.
• Join a positive and collaborative team culture focused on product knowledge and growth.
• Show up with urgency and enthusiasm to get the job done.
• Perform detailed daily record keeping and reporting.
• Perform Work Verifications (Second Set of Eyes).
